01 · Who this covers

This policy is published by the Tafseer e Namoona project and applies to all three places the commentary is read:

Wherever “the app” is mentioned below, it means both the Android and the iOS app; the two behave identically in every respect described here.

02 · The short version

Tafseer e Namoona is a reading project, not a data business. There are no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no advertising identifiers, and no profiles built from what you read. Your bookmarks, highlights, and reading position stay on your own device.

The only personal information we ever receive is what you type into the contact form yourself, and it is used only to answer you. We do not sell, rent, or trade any reader information to anyone, for any purpose.

03 · Data collection at a glance

None — no sign-up, no login, no password.

None beyond ordinary server request logs (IP address, device or browser type, time, and which verses were requested).

Data you provide

Only your contact-form submission: email address, message, and any screenshot you attach in the app.

Data shared with third parties

None sold or shared for advertising or analytics.

Location, contacts, camera roll

Never accessed. The app asks for a photo only if you choose to attach a screenshot to a report.

04 · What stays on your device

The website and the app both save a small amount of information locally — in your browser’s local storage on the web, and in the app’s own on-device storage on your phone or tablet:

• Bookmarks and highlights you save on a verse.
• The surah and verse you last had open, so reading can resume where you left it.
• Your reading settings — theme, font sizes, chosen translators, and interface language.

None of it is uploaded to us, synced between your devices, or attached to your name. Clearing your browser data, or uninstalling the app, erases it permanently: we hold no copy and cannot restore it for you.

05 · What is sent to our servers

The Quran text, the translations, and the tafseer are not bundled into the page — they are requested from our content server as you read. Those requests carry what any ordinary web request carries: which verses were asked for, your IP address, the browser or device type, and the time of the request.

When you write to us through the contact form — on the website’s About page, or from Contact Us inside the app — we receive the email address and message you type. From the app, a submission also carries the subject you chose, any screenshots you decided to attach, and a random identifier the app generates for itself on first launch so that repeat reports from the same installation can be recognised. That identifier is not an advertising ID, is not tied to your device hardware or to you, and disappears when the app is uninstalled.

Nothing else leaves your device. Your bookmarks, highlights, reading position, and settings are never transmitted.

06 · How that information is used

• Request data is used to deliver the text you asked for, and to keep the service healthy — diagnosing errors and blocking abuse. It is not used to profile readers.
• Contact submissions are used to read your note, to reply to you, and to correct whatever you reported.
• We do not use any of it for advertising, marketing lists, or automated decisions about you.

07 · Cookies and similar storage

The website sets no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. The local storage described above is readable only by this site, in this browser, and is never sent to a third party.

One session cookie exists: it is issued only when an editor signs in to the private administration area used to correct tafseer text. Ordinary readers never receive it.

08 · Services we rely on

Running a website and two apps means a handful of providers necessarily handle traffic on our behalf:

• Hosting and delivery — the website is served by Vercel, and the content API runs on Google Cloud. Both process request data, including IP addresses, in order to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
• Typography — the website loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser makes a request to Google’s servers when a page first loads.
• App distribution and updates — the apps are distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which collect their own download and crash statistics under their own policies. In-app updates are delivered through Expo’s update service.
• Audio — the audio lectures are hosted on SoundCloud; opening them leaves our service for theirs.

Each of these has its own privacy policy, and each sees only what it needs to do its part. None of them receives your bookmarks, your highlights, or your reading history, and none of them is paid for reader data.

09 · Security

Traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit over HTTPS. Contact submissions are stored on our content server and are reachable only by the people who maintain the project, over an authenticated connection. No system is perfectly secure, but because we hold so little, there is very little to lose.

10 · Retention and deletion

Contact submissions — including any screenshots — are kept only as long as they are useful for answering you and fixing what you reported, and are then deleted. Server request logs are short-lived and are retained only for diagnostics and abuse prevention.

Since there are no accounts, there is no account to delete. To have a message you sent us erased, write to tafseer.namoona@gmail.com or use the contact form and say so — we will remove it.

11 · Children

The website and the apps are suitable for readers of every age and are not directed at children in particular. Because we ask for no personal information in order to read, we do not knowingly collect any from a child. If a child has written to us and a parent or guardian asks us to delete that message, we will remove it on request.

12 · Your choices and rights

• Clear everything stored locally at any time — by clearing site data in your browser, or by uninstalling the app.
• Ask what we hold from a message you sent us, ask for a correction, or ask us to delete it.
• Decline the photo permission in the app — everything except attaching a screenshot works exactly the same without it.
• Read the whole Quran and the whole commentary without ever contacting us at all.

13 · Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will appear on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will be summarised here rather than slipped in quietly.

14 · Contact
